Hello Heart of the Hills,

I am this year's Board representative for Social functions. It was great to see such a large turnout at the annual meeting in February and to hear so many creative ideas about social events for the Club this summer. My position on the Board will serve in a capacity similar to the role of the Swim Team Representative. I will not be planning any particular events per se, (with the exception of the Labor Day picnic) but will instead assist in facilitating the implementation of whatever ideas that you bring forward and ultimately develop. My role will be to assist with Board approval, scheduling and funding of your ideas. This approach to social activities will provide an opportunity for those who expressed ideas in February, as well as any other members, to come forward and organize events of their choosing.

This will be more of a “bottom up” and “ownership” approach to activities, which is intended to allow and encourage greater participation by the entire membership to organize social events. You, as Club members, will set the social calendar as you see fit. The past several years have seen a trending away from more formal, scheduled events and greater participation in spontaneous functions (ice cream socials etc.). That trend may be something to consider in your event development. If anyone is interested, we could consider forming an actual committee, but again that is up to you as Club members.
